Moyle Returns to Racing

Following the devastating accident at Winton during the closing stages of the 944 Challenge in 2008, Ben has fully recovered and is set to make a return to racing at the very same venue this coming weekend – August 29 & 30. Ben said, “well you fall off the horse, you get right back on……” and that is, despite the time, exactly what is proposed for this coming weekend.

The #62 car, extensively damaged in the Winton collision, has been restored to an “as new” racing car with the care and expertise of Rod Smith Racing. Ben, when seeing the vehicle for the first time following the accident, had commented that the damage was “far more than I ever thought likely…”. In fact that was an understatement given that virtually the entire front end has been replaced. Such is the result of a high speed front impact as experienced by Ben and a credit to the skills of the entire team to bring #62 back to life.

Ben is keen to get the gremlins behind him in what has been a real "baptism by fire" in his rookie year of 944 racing. The time off has been well spent focussing on the remainder of the year and Ben is determined to get right back into it.

As a final comment, Ben would like to place on record his sincere appreciation for all the people who have helped him since and during the accident, particularly the Winton Raceway team, Victorian Ambulance both road and Air, the staff at the Austin Hospital, members of the 944 Association and Rod Smith and his colleagues.
